About Anne of Green Gables

Anne of Green Gables is part of the Japanese production called World Masterpiece Theatre, which animates classic children's literature. It's adapted from the book of the same name, by Lucy Maud Montgomery.

Fifty episodes cover the book, where red-haired, freckle-faced Anne Shirley is orphaned at an early age, starts a new life at Green Gables, and grows up.

She was accidentally sent to Miss Marilla Cuthbert and Mister Matthew Cuthbert instead of a boy, and became one of the family.
